I wrote about Seismic Data a year ago. I have learned basic concept of SEGD and SEGY seismic data. It’s very interesting!

Then i had an idea to create small software to convert seismic data from SEGD to SEGY directly. I started my small project from segdread module in Seismic Unix. Finally, I found that it is very simple process. We only need to move SEGD Header to SEGY Header correctly. Some of them are:

  • Oroginal field record number
  • Year data recorded
  • Day of year
  • Hour of day
  • Minute of hour
  • Second of minute
  • Trace identification code
  • Trace number within original field record
  • Delay recording time
  • Number of samples

That’s all. The problem is, there are so many SEGD types. We have to check that our software works for every SEGD types.
